A toast is a small floating window with text that appears for a short time at the top or bottom part of a user interface to inform the user about the result of the last command. In addition to the message, the toast may provide some actions to the user based on a context — for instance, to cancel the last action, to open additional details or to close the toast itself.
A toast can be considered as a non-disruptive alternative to traditional message boxes, where it is not needed to attract too much attention of the user.
Typical duration of the toast’s appearance is 3-5 seconds. In some cases, it can last longer, for instance if there is no connection to the Internet or a server and the system is waiting for connection to be restored.
